At this time the Council was not directly elected, but was chosen by a joint sitting of the New South Wales Parliament. :1 Labor MLC John Ferguson resigned on 30 April 1952. Labor candidate Patrick Grace was elected to replace him on 4 September 1952. :2 Liberal MLC Ernest Farrar died on 16 June 1952. Labor candidate Gertrude Melville was elected to replace him on 10 September 1952. :3 Labor MLC William Gibb died on 8 August 1952. Labor candidate Peter Fallon was elected to replace him on 24 September 1952. :4 Country MLC Ernest Sommerlad died on 6 September 1952. Labor candidate Gerald Rygate was elected to replace him on 30 October 1952. :5 Labor MLC Charles Anderson resigned on 28 February 1953. Labor candidate William Ferguson was elected to replace him on 3 September 1953. :6 Labor MLC William Ferguson resigned on 18 September 1953.
